Do I Have Plantar Fasciitis?

Your foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 ligaments, tendons, and muscles.

As reported by the Lower Extremity Review, up to 10 percent of the U.S. population will deal with heel pain at some point in their lives. 83 percent of these 10 percent are people age 25 to 65, and are usually active and working.

They also stated that Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, and accounts for approximately 1 million visits to doctors per year.

The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) reported that Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain are the most common conditions being treated by Podiatrists in the United States.

People diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis report these most common symptoms:

Are you a runner?

It is reported that between 4 and 22 percent of runners are affected by Plantar Fasciitis. Overuse, inappropriate training, certain running surfaces, excessive pronation, and underdevelopment of lower limb muscles, can all attribute to Plantar Fasciitis in runners.

You have a higher chance of being affected the older you get as it is reported that approximately 2.5 percent of young athletes are affected, compared to 6.6 percent of older athletes.

Beltsville Foot and Ankle Center

"Thank you for an opportunity to share my experience with you.

I was experiencing a great deal of pain on the bottom of my right foot that was made worse when I walked.

I first sought the advice of my primary care practitioner, but was referred to the Beltsville Foot & Ankle Center.

When I came to the practice, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis.

To treat this condition, I was prescribed orthotic insoles for my shoes and was given a regimen of carefully inserted injections to reduce the inflammation in my foot. The shots were relatively painless and quick. And the effect was immediate relief.

Since that time, I have been without pain and comfortably using my orthotic insoles since.

I greatly appreciate this medical help.”

Sincerely,

Mark Brimhall
